More on the sewing thread

The Lendrum has made it SO MUCH EASIER to produce sewing thread. This is a three-ply tightly twisted organzine. I’m using three filaments per ply, and it’s making up to about the weight of Size C from Belding Corticelli; I hope to be able to make some Size A as well, for finer weaving.

This is the three ply, approximately 20 twists per inch each way.

Because the raw silk is stiff, the skein stands upright, like a stick.

The silk, boiled off. Yes, I used this picture earlier.

Laid across a spool of Belding Corticelli Size C sewing silk. I want to make Size A, too – but I may end up having to adjust the filament size to get there. We’ll see what a 2×3 looks like!

Sigh… I love your silk! Also, loved the post of hot guys covered in mud. That one made my day.

    Any chance you’d sell some…?

Ya know, I haven’t really reconsidered cost-of-silk since I got the newer wheel. It’s still likely to be way too high to market effectively, because of the fact that I’m typically buying cocoons to supplement the ones I raise, and they’re averaging $100 a kilo.

However, I do frequently trade for interesting work – like, if you’ve got a project in mind, I could send enough silk that you could make one for you and one for me? I love having things made from my silk….

Hey you! I just entered an online contest for free cereal and thought of your love’s hobby of entering contests. I was wondering how he finds all the contests to enter. I thought I’d see if I couldn’t try for a bunch of free toys/baby products but don’t know how to get started finding anything. TIA for any advice you’ve got. 🙂

Hey! Most of his stuff, he finds through
It’s got whole communities, thousands of people, you can find specialty groups for particular kinds of contest, hints on how to do the entries, etc.

Good luck with it! I know that if you do it persistently, you can get lots of cool stuff.
