I got word this morning that I’ve been chosen for a SOAR Scholarship!
I’m very excited, and looking forward to meeting everybody there.

Oh,well done and congratulations!
I was watching a documentry about the old silk road the other night. I thought of you more than once
Thank you!
Woot! 🙂
Awesome new! Congratulations! Enjoy yourself; you deserve it!
I am quite pleased for you! You have demonstrated not only talent, but a generosity with your time and intellect that is a benefit to the entire fiber community.
Congratulations!!
Congrats!
I’ve been serving on a committee with one of the art profs from Eastfield. He also does embroidery. His name is David (last name slips my mind right now). He’s also the director of the gallery at Eastfield.
He’s very funny.
Thanks!
Thank you!
How cool! Sounds like somebody I should meet!
Congrats!
Thanks!
I agree.
Here’s a link to some of his stuff

I know he had a show in NYC this year that was all embroidery and it was called “Pricked”. I love that.
Congratulations! I’d dearly love to go to SOAR someday.
Thanks!
Oh that is fantastic news!
Thanks!
Oh congrats! That’s absolutely fabulous news! 🙂
Thanks!
Thanks! I had read the web reviews on the “Pricked” show – didn’t know we had anybody from around here in it.
This is fantastic Michael! Wow. They’re lucky to have you. 8-]
Thanks!
Now I’m trying to figure out how to manage to sit and reel silk while everybody is doing the “sit and spin” quiet times… with the minimum of checked/shipped stuff.
Congratulations!!!
I’m within driving distance, if there’s “ordinary” equipment I’m likely to have. It would save you shipping stuff if you could just borrow it from me. I’m reasonably well-equipped, but have never done any silk reeling.
And, of course, congrats on the well-deserved scholarship!
The thing to remember is those times are also likely to be, um, shall we say, not exactly quiet. More likely they’ll be cocktails and raucous spinnerly chatter. 😉 You’ll be thronged by people who want to see it done in real life. I wouldn’t worry about being disruptive.
I mean, if Stupid Yarn Tricks didn’t make anybody upset… you have nothing to worry about.
Yaay! I was kind of hoping I might run into a buddy in driving distance…
What I need, is a kettle (I use a stock pot, but anything that will hold 2 quarts or more…) and a couple of smaller pans (ideally, one small stock pot, like a 1 quart, and two small bowls) and an electric burner that will boil water, and a cord. I can bring any/all of those – but if you have some of that, it would be excellent.
I will be bringing or shipping the reel and the croissure… that’s the only stuff that I really can’t get by remote. Unless you have a milk crate and a garden “Shepherd’s Hook” thingy. 🙂
Thanks!
Stock pot, check. Smaller pan, check.
Bowls – what size? Resistant to boiling water, right?
Electric burner, nope. I do have a milk crate, though. My garden hook thingy has a clematis growing up it, assuming yo mean what I’m thinking of. 🙂
Would a crock pot work instead of the burner and maybe one pot?
Bowls don’t have to resist boiling water; I pour water into them with the hot kettle. Crock pot unfortunately doesn’t get hot enough… I have to actually boil the water for the cocoon groping.
I have a break-down chemistry stand that can take the place of the hook thingy just fine. The really crucial parts are the pulleys and the fishing-line guide eyes… the hook thingy just suspends them in space.
The hook I use is like this: http://oakenking.livejournal.com/176593.html
(you can see it well in the top photo)
Like I said, tho, I think the chem stand will replace it just fine.
Woooooot!! Congratulations!!
Thanks!
Congratulations, you talented, deserving, artistic, gifted, WONDERFUL man!
Go, you!!
Thanks!
How cool is that? You totally deserve it!!
Thanks!
Conga-rats!

I LOVE your habit of reeling silk in public places!:)
Hope to see some photos of it too.
Thanks! It’s a lot of fun – people are fascinated seeing it happen.
Re: Congrats
hee. Thank you! I’m not planning to be at FFF this time – it’s something I can only afford to do if I’m teaching.
Re: Congrats
Oh, and ENJOY PERU! Take lots of pictures! If you’re going to Cuzco, there’s a Center for Traditional Textiles, and Abby knows the person who runs it – I didn’t know about it when I went.
oh wow! Congratulations!
Thanks!
