Yaaay!
I put two pieces in the State Fair of Texas – a set of reeled silk skeins, and a tablet-woven silk ribbon.
Each of them took a blue ribbon in its category.
This is the first time I’ve entered a State Fair; I’m very pleased and excited!

My friend Donna has done the spinning exhibit for years there. Not sure if she’s back this year, as her health has been in the gutter lately, but you should stop by and say hello if you see a lady named Donna Hawk with a big spinning wheel and lots of wool and silk. She’d be very interested in your home-spun goodies.

She’s usually inside one of the pavillions. Her exhibit usually wins like 2nd or 3rd prize, so it will be easy to find, I’m sure. Maybe she’ll spin something out of your thread!

The silk skeins photo pretty well – you can at least see the sheen, and the colors are relatively true.

For some reason, the ribbon hates my camera. There’s something chromatic about the black and the red, that makes the camera unhappy. It’s not blurry in real life, honest!
I’d like to offer my congratulations, but did you really have any doubts? The project was amazing.
Thanks! My main doubt, was whether the SF folks would understand what I was doing – I was just glad they decided to keep my documentation with the pieces! Otherwise, it’s not really clear what parts I did… a lot of people think I buy the silk and dye it, or they think the ribbon is embroidery on a pre-made fabric.

FAIR?! The Fair has already started? *proceeds to bang head* Do you know how long they’ll be doing the crafty stuff or if it’s already over? I always plan on going and then miss it! 🙁
The Fair hasn’t started – it begins on the 24th, runs thru Oct. 17th. In order for them to get all the entries judged and on display, they have to be confirmed and paid by August 5th, delivered to the fair grounds for judging by the 22nd, and then they announce the results early in Sept… they’ll be on display for the whole time of the Fair. You’ve got plenty of time.
And make sure to check out the Butterflies in the Blachly if you get a chance – a huge glass conservatory full of free-flying tropical butterflies. Entirely magical. I’ll be volunteering three Mondays during the Fair run.
