Air Date for the That's Clever show!
I’ve gotten an air date for the HGTV segment that was shot last spring!
They filmed the whole process from raising the silk worms, to weaving theribbon – it will be interesting to see how they edit it together tomake it look cohesive, because there were some gaps like they didn’t show the twisting or dyeing.

is the episode’s page; it’s expected to air on January 5 at 1 PM PT/ET.
Here’s my journal entry about the process, along with pictures of the ribbon I wove for the show:

Wow, I can’t wait to see it.
Congrats. You do such great work you deserve some recognition.
Yay! I’ll be sure to watch.
You are a superstar! 🙂
Those other projects look pretty lame compared to yours. Too bad it’s not a competition. 🙂
Congrats!
I can’t wait to see this, especially having met you on the cruise.
Are you going to record it and put it on YouTube? Please remind us right before the airdate again so I can set my DishPVR to catch it.

NICE
I’m setting my TiVo right now… really looking forward to seeing you in “action.”

That’s just incredible–the bookmark and the story of the filming! I’m so happy for you. I am going to try to get someone to record it for me, as I do not get cable at this time–but I don’t want to miss this!!
Re: Congrats!
Yes, please Michael, record it and put it on YouTube 🙂 Then I can watch it. (I hate not having cable sometimes…)
Re: Congrats!
I’m hoping to YouTube it, if all goes well.
Yay! Be sure to let us know again just before airtime so we don’t miss it!
Welcome to the That’s Clever Club! Lol
It took more than 7 hours to film mine and they edited it down to 7 m innutes It was a little anticlimactic after the whole thing.. I will make sure and watch for yours
Be prepared for your website to be slammed that day. I got 4000 hits in the first hour.
Hee. What did you make?
One of their guys said something about “You’ll get a thousand hits to your website that day,” and I was thinking, “Hmm.. no, 500 – 800 is a good average day; it’ll probably be many thousand.” But, four thousand in an hour? Wow!
Oops, that was a type!
I wasn’t even on the livejournal so late last night
It was
four hundred in the hour, and two thousand something that day. But it was pretty consstent traffic for a couple weeks afterwards. And then they rerun in the spring and you will get slammed again and be completely unprepared unless you are on top of things 😉
I made one of my Stitched Leather Spine journals. This one, actually

They took more footage of my two pugs than they did of me. In fact, if I could have gotten the pugs to make the book, they would have.
Re: Oops, that was a type!
Nice project!
I wonder with mine, if they’re going to start with “raise 500 silkworms” Although, I don’t think that was part of the project steps that I had sent them, they focused on them a lot. They started out with me up in a tree, picking leaves for the worms – hopefully that footage came out good.
Raise 500 silkworms
Did you then go onto “and now we boil them… alive??” woo hahahahaha!
Well, if you wanted to parlay this into business, you will be having a lot of people contact you with the “where can I get..?” questions…
Some crafters hate it, because they are showing something they make and sell. Others don’t mind giving the info.
If you REALLY want to be proactive… have a link on your front page that says “If you are here from HGTV.. here is what you want to know…” and have links to all the supplies, etc.. (and if you do custom orders that too) so that you don’t get the dumb dumb dumb emails.
Maybe you won’t be as suprised at the dumb as I was, since your website is faily well known anyway.
Re: Raise 500 silkworms
Hee. Thanks for the heads-up!
No, they specifically avoided even showing that the caterpillar was inside the cocoon – wouldn’t shoot a picture of one spinning, because then people could draw the (reasonable) conclusion that the caterpillar doesn’t come out alive.
I’ll have to look into ordering more silk, I guess! I don’t sell this stuff, but I’ve thought about it. I’d rather buy supplies and resell them, than try to sell weaving.
