Okay, so I want to experiment with color in felting. And all the sources I have read, stress the fact that for color-work like intarsia and Fair Isle/Nordic to felt up evenly, it has to be the exact same wool, preferably the same brand.
I was at the Goodwill sweater-diving again, and found a beautiful “sheep white” (creamy natural color) sweater. I have a range of acid dyes, from my work with silk… so I started playin’. I know that I’ll want to do more subtle, over-dyed type shades at some point in the future, but this will allow me to test and see if individual colors affect the felting process. I’m still working on exactly what kind of piece I’m going to do first – something small, maybe just another little bag. They’re like swatches you can use.
So, without further ado… Roll Up and Dye…
Howdy!
This post is mostly instructions on how I made the little red bag; it’s like the big red bag, only, little. With surface texture and BOBBLES! They felt up so CUTE! The images are all medium-sized, but there are a lot, so it may take a while to load.
The Big Red Bag is finally done! This is made from the thrift store red sweater. It was a thoroughly satisfying experience overall; from ripping it apart to making something new.
I posted some pictures of my Tarot Card box/pouch last night late, but the computer entirely ate the information that I had typed in about how it was made. This isn’t a pattern, per se, because I worked for lengths rather than for numbers of stitches or rows.

Dream 20031119, 7:00 AM: The Water is Not Touching Itself.
How much my face has changed since I lost 30 pounds.
June 2001, about 223 pounds
October 2003, about 193 pounds

I got the first sock finished. AND it fits! Yaay!
I also poured eight pounds of soap and made eight recipes of bath seltzers. Whew!
I’ve been fascinated with knitting since Peru. I’ve dabbled before, but really wanted to learn more. Something about watching it happening again and again on the trip just kind of made it click. I wanted SOCKS. For some reason, they seem far more compelling to me than scarves (which has been my only previous experience with knitting, vis-a-vis one scarf), hats, etc.
Rather than gently experiment with making long round tubes and getting lots of virtuous practice, I decided to test the depth of the water with both feet. I found a relatively simple sock pattern, Baba’s Bed Socks, and started right in. I got through the first heel and most of the gusset, and realized which things needed to be done totally differently, so I ripped out that iteration and started over. Now, I’m about half-way down the foot. I’m so hooked! It’s definitely not perfect, but this is my first experience with DPN’s and my third knitted project, so be kind…. it may be a sock that only a mother could love, but at least it’s a sock
