More Kittens

Fraidy Cat is an orange-tabby FEMALE. The vet says it’s a rare combination. She’s a beautiful cat; the parts of her that are not dark orange, are a creamy buttery orange color. She has long hair.
EDITED: Fraidy has been placed. Yaaay!

Here’s all of them together. They are between 7 and 8 weeks old. They have been treated with a broad-spectrum worming agent, and treated with Revolution for fleas (today). I’m keeping one of the brown tabbies, and we tested him for felne leukemia and FIV, both of which were negative.

Tiger – male brown tabby, short hair.

Tiger close up.

Dreamsicle is kind of a combination of orange-tabby and orange-and-white. Male. Kind of medium-hair.

Sentinel – male, short hair. Sentinel is definitely “too cool for school” and considers posing for cute photos an offense to his dignity.

We called this one Guardian, because she was always watching out for Fraidy. Fraidy would often hide when we were in the yard, and Guardian would sit in front of Fraidy’s hiding place and hiss at us if we got too close. She’s gotten to be one of the sweetest and most interactive. She’s a tortoiseshell female, short hair.

Guardian is mostly black with the tortoiseshell being very subtle, and she has this look like half her face is lit with candle or moon light. .

Patch has a patch on her face. OK, so we were running out of clever names. She’s a tortoiseshell female, short hair.

The kittens are all healthy and have all their bits, so far as the vet could tell. They have been eating solid food for nearly three weeks; we found them on August 5, and have been feeding and handling them ever since. They were separated from their momma a week ago, so that we could get their fleas under control and teach them the wonders of the litter box. They are ready to be somebody’s kitty!

It looks like there are 4 dads, but not for that one kitten. Thanks for the info on the cat-genetics – I was kind of curious how that would work out! The vet said that they’re sometimes XXY, which makes sense.

If you hadn’t just written that Fraidy Cat was taken, I’d be picking her up as soon as possible…. As a former redhead with blue eyes myself, I find her coloring particularly enticing … *singing* Memories …. 🙂

My friend has a black and white cat who is 18 years old … We’ve been eyeing kittens everytime we go to Pet Smart.

    HUGS!

If Guardian isnt taken by the weekend – I should be picking her up. I am needing coaxing though. I dont think I have your number in my new phone. =( pls email to andilou_1970@charter.net.

And talk me into taking her. I am taking a survey on whether I should have a cat or not. I am torn. I am afraid I will not be home enough. I just dont know! I want a cat or a dog or anything really… cats are great though. Sorry for the indecision.

Anyway Guardian seems to be calling to me through the photos though… I am taking that as a sign from Bast or other cat deities. =)

The pictures make me extremely glad I’m 4 hours south of you. I think I’m in love (more than once!)
Good luck on the placements, and thanks for taking care of them. Having done the same thing several times, it becomes addictive – so take note of that. And give all of them scratches from me. Damn, but whatever Creators are out there sure knew what they were doing when they made all babies (well, most babies) cute, didn’t they?

The one I’m keeping is Bob; he’s not in the photos. He’s another brown tabby, but long-haired. In my first post about them, he’s the one in the close-up.

They are so sweet my teeth hurt just looking at them 😛

I wish I could help you out with giving one a home! These photos have given me a big case of kitten-cluckiness.

Dreamsicle looks like a little bandit with that white mask over his ginger face! Soooo cute.

About the ginger tabby female, I’ve only heard of that happening once before and that was the mum of my Hamish. She was a gorgeous red tabby with very vivid markings, and strangely enough, an oriental shape to her body. My friends in whose linen closet she gave birth (she walked in off the street) never could figure out that combination! The genetic info from one of your previous commenters was very interesting to read. I didn’t know all that.

Good luck with homing them all.

    *sigh*

It’s a good thing she’s placed because I really want that Fraidy cat. Ginger cats get to me and I’ve never seen a female. I’d be in Big trouble with Little Nemo though.

The ‘orange gene’ is sex-linked. That’s why cats with both orange and black (tortishells and calicos) are always female. They have to have 2 X chromosomes to have both colors. As a corollary, orange kitties are male something like 75% of the time. I would say it’s ‘uncommon’ for an orange cat to be female (rather than rare) but that’s just my take.
(I worked in the pet industry for 10 years, that’s how I know this crap.)
If I wasn’t 4 states away, I’d be wanting one of the torties!!!

Have you considered naming renaming Patch for Goma, from Murikami’s Kafka On The Shore ? And then keeping her? Forever?

You should OUR kittens. They destroy me everyday by merely existing. I am trying to put them in other people’s houses, just to keep myself from asphyxiating on “Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckyoukittens WHY?!”

LOL. I think something similar to that phrase, when I have to take my shower in the bathroom where the kittens live. Or, when the kittens decide to climb my pants leg, but I’m not wearing pants.

I’ve got four placed… three to go!!
