Silk Reeling at the Crow Collection

For any local (North Texas) folks who will be around on Saturday, the 25th – I’m going to be part of an exhibit at the Crow Collection of Asian Art, showcasing art from the Silk Road. The title of the traveling exhibit is “Ancient Threads, Newly Woven: Recent Art from China’s Silk Road“. There is a whole day of activities and special displays – you can see more details here: LINK

They’ve got live music, Elizabeth Barber giving a talk about the Mummies of Urumchi, and, of course, a silk reeling demo! I’ll be there from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Ooh, Elizabeth Barber. I’ve seen her speak twice. She was interested in my sprang and dragged me off to see my piece in the art showcase at a So. CA weaving conference a few years back. I gave her a cap and she was thrilled. I half-expect it to show up in a book sometime. ;-j She’s an enthusiastic lady.

Wish I could be there — sounds like a great exhibit.

It was funny – I saw something about her lecture, and thought, “Ooh, cool, that sounds like something to go see!” and then I realized, “D’oh, that’s part of the same exhibit where I’ll be reeling silk…”

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to visit with her some.

I don’t suppose that’s travelling up here to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts anytime soon? That’s the kind of show they often have and I’d be there in a heartbeat!

    Go you!

Oh man! I would love to come, but I’ll be in Austin that weekend. I’m having a makeover, courtesy of my best friend. 🙂 Hair, clothes, shoes…everything. Wheeee!

    Wow – how fun!

They’re doing another big Family Day thing on the 11th of March. I’m not sure if it will have the lecture component, but will probably have the hands on activities.

Of course, if you get a chance to come down for the March 11th one, you might just happen to loudly proclaim to all your friends, “Wow, that silk demonstration was amazing, that just totally made my day!” 🙂
