Hey-lolly-golly, get it any way you can!
This is especially for Darina, because she can’t believe my moths are SO KINKY.
These are both males.
They’re hooked together really well.
This little grouping is one male, mated with a female – and then another male who has hooked up his claspers on the other male’s wing. I can’t imagine that would be comfortable.
But, once again… you can see that they’re firmly attached. Imagine supporting your entire weight by your prehensile penis, and you can get an idea what’s going on.
These two males must have timed it just right, because they usually can’t hook up with a female without a fairly clean mating of the genitalia. I’m not sure if one, both, or neither was actually hooked up enough to get the job done.
I was in the woods a couple of weeks ago and noticed three moths clamped/hooked together. It seemed to be a male at the top, a female in the middle and a male on the bottom. I couldn’t figure out what was going on- is this how some moths procreate??? I’d love to know more! They were fused in a similar manner to these photos…
I love reading your terrific post.
They’re just driven so crazy by their pheromones that they feel an urgent need to clasp onto SOMETHING… and some times it’s not the female. I don’t think that it aids their procreation at all.
poor things. hormones just tweak their bodies
and they’re along for the ride
maybe a wee bit of segregation
say human directed mating might help
are these the moths from the tinier eggs?
did they come out in the same ration of size
i wonder what size their children will be
with you care and a wee bit less stress
one of my little nephews, Zephyr, the middle, was telling his mum the other night that they should start raising silk worms because
“I want to make silk t-shirts for my brothers”
There is something rather Fellini-esque about those pictures…
That was my thought as well.
That’s not even a Daisy Chain…what is it, piggy backing?
All I know is, it looks like it should be bronzed and on a necklace.
Hello everybody, “Darina” in question is me! There was a power failure last night just when I started looking at my Friends Page, and I missed THIS!
Oh, your moths are really naughty! LOL
I had a male-male pairing yesterday, and I only noticed it when I moved everybody to clean up and they got separated and started buzzing around. And I had a female hooked up with two males at once last year. The eggs did get fertilized in the end, but I don’t know who did it. It could even have been a third male.
But oh, clasping onto another moth’s WING… pervert! *is very, very amused*
Pervy moths! That’s great.
