The Heminway Silk – Seller is up again.

For anyone who wanted some of the Heminway silk…

The Ebay seller where I got the 000 Sewing Silk has some more to sell – he had been out of touch, not out of stock! His computer access has been up and down, so if one sells, he can’t always immediately re-list.

You can see my work with degumming and dyeing the 000 silk here:

and here:

I haven’t woven with it yet.

Seller’s page is here: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbluedolphin-2000

Please let him know I sent you, if you do decide to buy some!

Don’t even talk to me about stash… I’ve been going through and re-organizing the 58-quart Sterilite tubs on their big steel shelves. There are full tubs with labels like “Greige silk yarns for dyeing” and “Silk threads for TW.” I am seriously considering getting rid of things like alpaca and wool… not because they’re not lovely, they are – I just don’t have time.

I *wish* I lived near a silk weaving studio! I probably would have to just set up a streetcar line… not to mention a line of credit.

Yeah – it’s something like 8400 yards. It’s in the gum, so it’s a little extra work… but I bought 10 spools, if that tells you anything. 🙂

I would totally have to streamline my skeining process to take advantage of that deal… sooooo tempting though! I have several tablet weaving projects planned as well as a class to teach *gleeps* I’ll make sure I tell him you sent me if I order some!!!

Yeah, it looks like he must have sold out of it. He had a couple dozen spools – I’m guessing several people must have snatched it up!

    on a completely different note…

I am reading Sweetness and Light about the history of the honeybee. I am really liking it and last nite the author was talking about a scientist who wrote about both bees and silkworms and I thought.. would prolly be able to refer me to a book about the history of the silkworm! Do you have any book recommendations in that vein??

Oh, there’s dozens. Probably John Feltwell’s “The Story of Silk” is the most accessible. Leggett’s “The Story of Silk” (you’d think they would check, don’t you?) is thicker and a little deeper in some places, but it’s also much older and not as available.

The Feltwell book is widely available, and you can often get it dirt cheap:
    http://www.amazon.com/Story-Silk-John-Feltwell/dp/0312057725
has it used starting at $2.35

WOW! that was fast! Thank you.

And since I know you are a bee lover I will say I am enjoying Sweetness and Light by Hattie Ellis is very accessible.
