The Heminway Silk – Seller is up again.
For anyone who wanted some of the Heminway silk…
The Ebay seller where I got the 000 Sewing Silk has some more to sell – he had been out of touch, not out of stock! His computer access has been up and down, so if one sells, he can’t always immediately re-list.
You can see my work with degumming and dyeing the 000 silk here:

and here:

I haven’t woven with it yet.
Seller’s page is here: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbluedolphin-2000
Please let him know I sent you, if you do decide to buy some!
Michael
Oooooh! I’m so tempted, but so poor!
*writhes*
you are a bad man
Hee. I do try. 🙂
I recently tallied up some of the fabric meterage value in my sewing room, kind afraid to tally up the silk skeins
I (and a couple others on your f-list) live near the Silk Weavers Studio http://www.silkweavingstudio.com/ and the silk tree http://www.silkyarn.com/prices.html, add in a natural dye store in the same area and we are all really hooped 😉
Don’t even talk to me about stash… I’ve been going through and re-organizing the 58-quart Sterilite tubs on their big steel shelves. There are full tubs with labels like “Greige silk yarns for dyeing” and “Silk threads for TW.” I am seriously considering getting rid of things like alpaca and wool… not because they’re not lovely, they are – I just don’t have time.
I *wish* I lived near a silk weaving studio! I probably would have to just set up a streetcar line… not to mention a line of credit.
Oooo…I may just get some. That is an amazing price for that much silk.
Yeah – it’s something like 8400 yards. It’s in the gum, so it’s a little extra work… but I bought 10 spools, if that tells you anything. 🙂
I would totally have to streamline my skeining process to take advantage of that deal… sooooo tempting though! I have several tablet weaving projects planned as well as a class to teach *gleeps* I’ll make sure I tell him you sent me if I order some!!!
careful or not_just_a_girl will start suggesting you move to Vancouver
if you did it would be silly to not gang the orders
I will totally get ahold of people if this is happening!!! Don’t you worry girl!
I see no silk for sale at the ebay link you provided. I was gonna get some, but it must have all sold out. :-(((
Yeah, it looks like he must have sold out of it. He had a couple dozen spools – I’m guessing several people must have snatched it up!
on a completely different note…
I am reading Sweetness and Light about the history of the honeybee. I am really liking it and last nite the author was talking about a scientist who wrote about both bees and silkworms and I thought.. would prolly be able to refer me to a book about the history of the silkworm! Do you have any book recommendations in that vein??
Re: on a completely different note…
Oh, there’s dozens. Probably John Feltwell’s “The Story of Silk” is the most accessible. Leggett’s “The Story of Silk” (you’d think they would check, don’t you?) is thicker and a little deeper in some places, but it’s also much older and not as available.
The Feltwell book is widely available, and you can often get it dirt cheap:
http://www.amazon.com/Story-Silk-John-Feltwell/dp/0312057725
has it used starting at $2.35
Re: on a completely different note…
WOW! that was fast! Thank you.
And since I know you are a bee lover I will say I am enjoying Sweetness and Light by Hattie Ellis is very accessible.
Re: on a completely different note…
Cool. I’ll have to check it out!
Very cool and creative and unique! You’re sure to be remembered.
